Agendaless - Transmission #12

And The Rodneys are queuing up, god forbid.

Dear Friends, it’s been a little while since you’ve heard from us. I think, as a band, we are all just kinda chugging along with our individual lives, trying to make some sense of the world as the days go by. Jake is also mixing the next Pretty Flowers record, which is all tracked and sounding legitimately awesome. Lots of surprises in store for you with this one. Should there be any labels out there reading this who might be interested in releasing this legitimately awesome 12-track 3rd LP from The Pretty Flowers, reach out to us at theprettyflowersla@gmail.com. We would like to hear from you.

We have a show coming up on August 3rd at Permanent Records Roadhouse with Faulty Cognitions, who’ll be out from San Antonio, TX. We’re stoked to be playing this one. Other than being a great band, Chris Mason, who runs Dirt Cult Records plays guitar and sings with FC. Chris put out our first album, Why Trains Crash on Dirt Cult. The band Personal Hell is also on the bill and the whole shebang is being presented by Sid the Cat. Pick up tickets for the show here.

At the top of the page is me covering The Stranglers song “Duchess,” which I love dearly. Just a magnificent tune. My first exposure to The Stranglers was “The Collection 1977-1982” being included in a great stack of LPs that my mom’s punk friend, Whim, whom she waitressed with, gave me in my early teen years. I couldn’t really figure The Stranglers out back then, and I’m still not sure that I have a grasp on how they were regarded by UK or American pop music fans, even today.

I had written a tweet a long time ago on our since-deleted Twitter account about how bands on these TV music shows back in the day would have to lip-synch and mime their performances, and then they’d talk shit about how lame it was to have to do that. It’s like, oh boo-hoo, now you have this perfect document of your band and your song on TV and you didn’t have to get so nervous about being on TV that you fuck it all up doing something stupid. Here are The Stranglers being cool as hell, playing the song “Duchess” exactly as it appears on their 1979 album The Raven.

Keep sane and take care of yourselves and your neighbors.

Yours,

Noah
